While it is true that as time passed, immigrants have become more accepted, it is also true that there is still a long way to go before they are completely accepted. Indeed, there are still lots of misconceptions about them, and sadly, they still face quite a bit of discrimination. Whether they have come to the US after seeing immigration job advertising or for other reasons, it is important for one to know just what myths there are out there and how incorrect they are.
Taking All the Jobs
While it may be true that some of them have moved after seeing immigration job advertising, and all of them will need to do something to be able to support their families, they are certainly not taking all the jobs away. They, just like everyone else, consume American products, which means that they help the economy.
Criminals
Another common misconception is that these people are the reason the rates of violence in the country are increasing. However, there is no evidence that the two are connected. Whether one has moved here because of immigration job advertising or to be together with their family, most of these individuals are good citizens, who are simply trying to improve their situation. In fact, many studies have shown that native born Americans are more likely to end up in prison than immigrants.
Illegally
Many people have this misconception that most of those who have moved to the country have done so illegally, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Indeed, most people have gone through extensive processes to be able to move into the US and have green cards that allow them to legally reside in the US.
Too Many
Another common misconception has to do with the fact that there are too many immigrants around. The truth, however, is that the percentage of people who were not born in the US has stayed somewhat stable compared to the percentage of people born in the US. The fact that the foreign population appears to be growing is simply because the native population is also growing. As such, having new people come in the country is actually helping the economy by keeping everything running smoothly.
While it may be tempting to place the blame of many of the things that are going wrong with today’s world on the foreigners, at the end of the day, it is simply not accurate. One can simply look at studies done on this subject to convince themselves of that fact.
