There are plenty of companies within the US who have offices not just domestically, but internationally as well. For them, placing immigration advertising is not something they have to do, since more often than not, they already know of great foreign workers, as they are working for them. Of course, they can still place immigration advertising within their own company, as this route will ensure that the individuals applying are happy to come to the US, since they were informed of that via the advertising. Regardless of how that step is done, in some cases, companies will want their foreign employees to come to work in US offices. In these cases, they may either pick the L-1A or the L-1B Visa. This article talks about the latter.
What?
The L-1B visa is one that was created to allow companies to transfer their foreign employees in their domestic offices. This can only happen for a limited amount of time, and it is made for those employees who have very specialized knowledge as far as the processes, products or services of that company go.
Comparing the L-1A and the L-1B
The main difference when it comes to these two is who is eligible for each of them. The L-1A is made for managers and executive workers, while the L-1B applies to those who have specialized knowledge. This knowledge can be about equipment, service, management, techniques or product, as well as anything else about the company’s interests or a very in depth knowledge of the processes of the company.
Requirements
Those who want to be eligible for this visa have to have that specialized knowledge that was discussed earlier. They must also have worked for the foreign office of the company for no less than one year. While in the US, the L-1B individual cannot work for a company that is not affiliated with the sponsoring company.
The length of this visa can go from a few months to 3 years, though this is highly dependent on the country from which the individual came. In some cases, one can renew it for no more than two additional years, which means that the employee can end up spending 5 years in total in the US.
A company can use L-1B employees to help them start a new office domestically in cases where their particular knowledge is needed for this. If this is the case, then the employee can stay in the US for no more than one year. In addition, just like it is the case with the L-1Avisa, members of the family of the individual with the L-1B visa may be able to accompany them.
